Douglas County, KS, Information Technology department is hiring for the position of GIS Analyst to begin work in August 2023. In the GIS analyst role, you will collaborate with other members of the GIS team on the scope and schedule of projects. The GIS analyst is expected to maintain extensive knowledge of local government GIS and successfully analyze data and present data visualizations. This position requires basic knowledge of all Douglas County departments and functions. Success in this role will be demonstrated by meeting objectives and providing expertise and support while utilizing Douglas County's GIS capabilities. Essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to, the following. Performs geographic analysis of spatial data, reveals patterns, designs and presents findings. Utilizes established techniques to locate, maintain, manipulate, extract, and analyze geographic data. Evaluates database accuracy through verification procedures to ensure compliance with database and cartographic standards. Responds to requests for maps, information, records from all county departments, and outside agency or the general public. Contributes as part of a team to complete short-term projects and long-term projects. Performs a variety of surveying mapping duties including calculating complex survey data such as metes and bounds of land transfers, road rights of way, and annexations; reviews and verifies calculations for accuracy. Maintains County addressing for 911 dispatch. Assist with data collection. Assists with training of any county staff in job-specific GIS techniques. Documents GIS workflows.
