The University of Kansas Department of Geography and Atmospheric Science is seeking applicants for an adjunct faculty position to teach GEOG 311: Introductory Cartography and Geovisualization and potentially other cartography offerings in the future. Required Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Geography or related field; Experience and expertise in creating professional visualizations and maps using geospatial capabilities in GIS, data analysis software, and graphics applications; Experience applying cartographic design practices to a variety of datasets; Experience employing sound cartographic design, typography and symbolization; Desired qualifications: Experience working with industry or government partners, clients, and professional associations. Experience developing interactive maps for online and mobile applications Experience in Designing map and visualization projects for both print and digital platforms ------------ The GEOG 311 course is scheduled for MWR 1:00-1:50PM in Wescoe 1015. And there’s a GTA for the lab portion: GEOG 311 Introductory Cartography and Geovisualization. It’s a 4-hour course that includes a lab and currently is full (20 students): This course is an introduction to cartography and focuses on computer-based map making skills. It begins with the history of cartography, cognitive maps, and the use of maps in the past and modern times. Topics covered in this course emphasize spatial data handling, principles of cartography and symbolization, map elements and design, and mapping techniques such as choropleth, proportional symbol and dot maps. Students will learn to adopt appropriate spatial data and mapping techniques to create accurate and creative digital maps reflecting given phenomena. Satisfies: Lab and Field Experiences (LFE)
